Maharashtra has made history in the 31st National Adolescent (Sub Junior) Championship Kho-Kho competition. Maharashtra easily won the tournament held at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Una, Himachal Pradesh.

Dharamshala: Maharashtra has made history in the 31st National Adolescent (Sub Junior) Championship Kho-Kho competition. Maharashtra easily won the tournament held at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Una, Himachal Pradesh. In the final held on Wednesday, Maharashtra's Kishor defeated Karnataka and Kishor defeated Punjab to clinch the title for the sixth time with a double crown. The Maharashtra junior group has won the tournament 10 times so far, while the junior group has won the title 15 times. The tournament was played in Jharkhand last year. At that time, the Maharashtra youth group had won the title, while the teenagers had to settle for the runner-up position. Maharashtra, however, has won the double crown this year. Maharashtra has done this 6 times so far. Meanwhile, Ashish Gautam of Maharashtra was awarded the 'Bharat' award while Sanika Chafe was honored with the 'Ila' award.

This year, Karnataka had to settle for the runner-up spot in the junior group. West Bengal and Haryana finished third. In the junior category, Punjab emerged runners-up. Rajasthan and Delhi finished third.

'Himachal will be known as playground'

In the final match of the junior group, Maharashtra got 10 points and Karnataka got 6 points. In the final, Maharashtra got 11 points and Punjab got 3 points. At the conclusion of the competition, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Virendra Kanwar felicitated the winners and runners-up. Kanwar said, “Himachal is known as the land of heroes and the land of gods, and it will now be known as the land of sports. Our state is making steady progress in the field of sports. With the help of Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, the state government is providing modern facilities for sports and athletes. ”

Positive results of the Play India program

Kanwar said, “Una district has produced many players like Padma Shri Charanjit Singh, Deepak Thakur and Nishad Kumar who have won many medals and raised India's profile internationally. The central government has done a lot in this area under the Play India program and it is showing positive results. ”

Meanwhile, Goseva Commission Vice President Ashok Sharma, District BJP President Manohar Lal, Zilla Parishad Vice President Krishna Pal Sharma, State Kho-Kho Sangh President Rakesh Thakur, Kho-Kho Federation of India President Rakesh Thakur and office bearers of various Kho-Kho organizations were present. General Secretary M. S. Tyagi and other Kho-Kho unions were present.
