To give more expansion to electric vehicles in the country, the government is working on several schemes simultaneously. This includes creating infrastructure for e-vehicles with discounts on the prices of vehicles. Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey informed today that the Automotive Research Association of India is developing fast chargers for e-vehicles, along with the government is also in talks to set up charging stations at petrol pumps.

The Minister informed that the Ministry is currently in talks with the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas to install e-vehicle chargers at 22 thousand petrol pumps spread across the country. He did not mention any time frame for this, although indicated that creating infrastructure for e-vehicles is one of the priorities of the government. He informed that at present the plan is to set up a charging station at a distance of every 25 km on a highway, while in cities there should be one charging station within a radius of 3 km.

ARAI to develop fast charger

At the same time, the minister also informed that the Automotive Research Association of India is currently working on developing a fast charger for e-vehicles. The Pune-based institute has already developed the prototype of the charger, and the charger will be ready by December 2022, ARAI has been told to finalize the product by October 2022 so that it can be used by December.

The biggest problems for e-vehicle customers will be overcome

According to the minister, with these steps, the biggest difficulties of those who buy e-vehicles will be removed. He said that at present, the complaints of the people are the time taken to charge the battery and the inconvenience caused in traveling long distances due to the absence of a charging station. Due to which the demand for e-vehicles especially two wheelers and three wheelers will increase. At the same time, with the establishment of a network of charging stations, people will be able to take their e-vehicle on long journeys.
